Articles, essays, and practical guides on education, publishing, and the science of learning
A practical framework for first-time academic authors: six elements that separate a textbook that merely gets published from one that actually teaches — organised the way an architect organises a building, structure first, style second. Covers the fixed structure (curriculum, chapter blueprint, pedagogical style) and the changeable interior (layout, callouts, physical design).
Part 1 gave authors the blueprint. Part 2 shows where real authors — and real publishers — get the blueprint wrong, with documented cases from instructional design research, academic publishing guidelines, and curriculum theory. Each mistake is tied to a specific element and includes practical fixes.
A personal reflection on the thinking behind Kung Fu Quiz — a YouTube video quiz annotator that lets teachers overlay interactive quizzes on any YouTube video. The post explains the platform's three modes (feedback, game, and assessment) and the motivation to unlock the educational value hidden inside YouTube's vast library of content.
A reflection on the GEIF Myanmar 2026 (theme: “AI-Enhanced Education: Teaching with Purpose and Ethics”). Covers why pedagogy must lead technology, the flipped classroom in practice via mySecondTeacher, and why schools remain essential in the AI era — addressing the cognitive, affective, psychomotor, and conative domains that no chatbot can replace.
A three-phase system for validating demand, finding product-market fit, and converting that fit into repeatable revenue — synthesized from Harvard Innovation Labs guidance and applied market research, with insights from Dr Benson Soong. Covers the Mom Test, contextual inquiry, the Sean Ellis 40% test, the Hook Model, and positioning before product.
YouTube is the richest library of educational video ever assembled and teachers assign it constantly. But without a way to verify that students actually engage, that trust quietly backfires. Drawing on independent research from Oxford Economics, the University of Trento, and Gallup, this article makes the case for putting the check for understanding directly on top of the video, and introduces KFQ (Kung Fu Quiz) as the accountability layer.
